Al Mouj Muscat and Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Announce Eleventh Edition of Science Café: An Incubator of Innovation
Oman’s world-class lifestyle destination, Al Mouj Muscat Enhances Scientific Literacy and Innovation
Al Mouj Muscat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MoHERI), represented by Oman Animal and Plant Genetic Resources Center (Mawarid), has proudly hosted the eleventh edition of the Science Café. Building on the successes of previous installments, this initiative aims to enhance scientific literacy and fostering discussions on critical issues such as genetic resources, biodiversity, and the impact of carbon sequestration on global warming.
This latest edition of the Science Café, held at Al Mouj Muscat, welcomed more than 60 attendees. It was moderated by Dr. Mutassim Al Maamari and featured distinguished speakers Dr. Maryam bint Mohammed Al Busaidi, head of the National Program for Carbon Sequestration, and Sara bint Zaher Al Affani, Manager of Farm Planning at Nakheel Oman. Dr. Maryam provided an insightful introduction and a comprehensive review of the government’s carbon sequestration efforts. Following her presentation, Sara Al Affani discussed the impact of carbon sequestration on the agricultural sector.
The event emphasized the crucial role of genetic resources, particularly in aquatic ecosystems and forests, in carbon sequestration and combating global warming. The panel highlighted that about 45% of CO2 emissions from human activities remain in the atmosphere, significantly contributing to global warming. They also engaged with attendees, addressing a range of questions and fostering an informative and dynamic discussion.

The Science Café is a monthly series , organized by Mawarid, offering an informal and engaging environment for discussing cutting-edge scientific topics, which bolsters the scientific community in Oman and reinforces Al Mouj Muscat’s broader efforts to support their community through education.
