Sparking the Community’s Love Story with Books – Al Mouj Muscat Launches the First Little Free Library in Oman
Al Mouj Muscat brings globally successful initiative to Oman for the first time across four locations, to increase access to books and inspire a love of reading.
11 March 2018: For story lovers and potential book worms, Al Mouj Muscat has launched the first Little Free Library in Oman, located within its community. This ‘take a book, return a book’ free book exchange concept is designed to inspire a love of reading and has already proved a huge success. A further three Little Free Libraries are set to open across Al Mouj Muscat at The Walk and Reehan Residences.
As the first Little Free Library initiative to be introduced in Oman, it aims to encourage reading amongst people of all ages and backgrounds as well as connect people in their neighbourhoods. A multitude of books from different genres, and numerous languages can be found in these colourful Little Free Library kiosks - look out for the birdhouse and peace pole design which are lit up at night by solar lights, to get involved and exchange a book. Al Mouj Muscat residents have already volunteered to become stewards to take care of these Little Free Libraries.
Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat said, “Reading is a passion of mine and so I am proud to have brought the first Little Free Libraries project to Oman and placed in different locations at Al Mouj Muscat, which I hope will inspire young people to read more. Our staff donated the books, which stocked the first Little Free Library, and it was encouraging that only a few hours later there was a complete set of new books. I am excited that we are building a community of book lovers here and hope to see this amazing movement continue to grow across Oman.”
Mazen Dana, an Al Mouj Muscat resident and community volunteer said, “This is a wonderful initiative for the community. If sharing is caring, then sharing books and stories among children within Al Mouj Muscat community promotes so many things way beyond our first impressions… reading is only the start. It was so encouraging and delightful to see how the community reacted to this humble initiative. The community feedback was centered on positivity, togetherness, and how much happiness this initiative brought to children, parents and the neighbourhood.”
A non-profit worldwide movement, there are 50,000 registered Little Free Libraries in over 70 countries around the world. Through Little Free Libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year across the world, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.
