‘Golf Oman’ club together to boost sports tourism from Asia

Oman Golf Committee, five premier golf courses and tourism companies visit Asian Golf Tourism Convention showcase country’s world class offering

Muscat, Oman – 25 April 2018: For the first time ever, the Oman Golf Committee, Al Mouj Golf Club, Ghala Golf Club, Muscat Hills Golf Club and Ras Al Hamra Golf Club came together with Zahara Tours, and Gulf Ventures as ‘Golf Oman’ to promote the country’s golf and leisure facilities to global audiences. Representatives from Golf Oman attended the Asian Golf Tourism Convention from 22 - 25 April 2018  in Manila, Philippines, to highlight the country as a world class tourist destination for the international golfer.

During the event, with an attendance from more than 200 travel companies, tour operators, members of the golfing industry, and delegates from over 35 countries, the Oman delegation showcased the country’s five stunning golf courses, all of which offer something different for the golfer, as well as the Sultanate’s one-of-a-kind landscape.
Mundhir Al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Committee, said “This is a very important event for golf tourism in Oman, especially in regard to short-term development. It’s great to see all the clubs working together to develop the industry and contribute to Oman’s growing tourism economy. This type of collaboration is what we need to move forward and ensure the international community sees Oman as the ideal holiday choice that it is. We’re looking forward to working together more in the future and cementing Oman as a premier golfing destination.”

The efforts of the Oman delegation are expected to boost golf tourism to the Sultanate and prove Oman to be a worthy competitor in golfing tourism, especially for the GCC region. Currently, the Asia Pacific region receives the largest number of golfing tourists internationally and Oman is strategically positioned to become an attractive choice for the golf tourist.

Mubarak Hill, Club Manager at Al Mouj Golf who has been instrumental in coordinating the collaboration at the event said, “As a destination Al Mouj Muscat and our award-winning golf course is seeing an increase in sports tourism each year and the events that we are hosting are growing– for example we recently hosted the first ever NBO Oman Open. But this is the first time we have come together as a collective to promote what Oman has to offer to the international golfer – which is plentiful and incredibly competitive on a global scale. We are proud to be working together to drive growth in the tourism sector.”
